The 2026 edition of the Sugny Witch Folklore Festival will take place:

• from May 23 to 24, 2026.

A true story: the Sugny witch trial of 1657

The story begins in the 17th century, in a rural Ardennes still marked by popular fears, religious beliefs and superstitions.

In 1657, several unexplained deaths struck the village of Sugny. Livestock fell ill, the inhabitants spoke of strange phenomena, and fear gradually took hold in their homes. As everywhere in Europe at that time, the population sought someone to blame.

Four women from the village were then accused of witchcraft.

Testimonies piled up, rumors grew, and the interrogations quickly descended into irrationality. Three of the accused were convicted and executed. Even today, this trial remains one of the most famous witchcraft cases in the Belgian and French Ardennes.

An immersive historical reenactment in the heart of the village

For several decades, the inhabitants of Sugny have been reviving this part of history through an impressive historical reenactment.

The entire village is transformed into a life-size set: period costumes, medieval music, folk characters, theatrical scenes and entertainment immerse visitors in an atmosphere that is as mysterious as it is spectacular.

To date, the official 2027 dates have not yet been publicly announced.

However, as the event is traditionally organised around the Pentecost weekend, it will most likely take place around May 15 and 16, 2027.
